What is the Low and Slow protocol?

The Low and Slow protocol explained

If you are new to vagus nerve stimulation, you're known to be hypersensitive to external stimuli, or you have a poorly functioning vagus nerve, it is important that you start out slowly using VeRelief as it is easy to overstimulate the vagus nerve for individuals with these characteristics.

The Low and Slow approach is all about using the device at a very low setting for a very short amount of time. The purpose of this is to see how your body responds to the nerve stimulation and to ease your way into a full treatment protocol.

Low and Slow

We recommend setting the device in Modes 1, 2, or 3. Make sure you have a fresh set of gel tips in the device. Remove the cap and set the intensity to the lowest setting.

Apply the device against the vagus nerve just under the ear on the side of the neck. It is likely you won't feel any stimulation at the lowest setting. If you don't feel anything, that is ok. The device is still working. Hold the device in place for 30 seconds and then remove it and set it down.

Take a minute to be mindful of how your body feels. If you feel alright and don't feel overstimulated, you should place the device against your neck again once more, but this time hold it in place for 60 seconds.

Continue to do this in increments of 30-60 seconds at the lowest intensity until you can comfortably hold the device in place for a full 5 minutes on one side of the neck.

Once you can hold it in place for a full 5 minutes, then you can start turning up the intensity for your future sessions.

Note

It may take you several weeks or even months before you're able to turn up the intensity levels. Some people with chronic nervous system conditions have very sensitive nervous systems and respond to very low levels of stimulation. This is totally normal.

Do not rush into turning up the intensity. Be content using it at a lower intensity level for short amounts of time. Only start to increase the intensity after you have confidence you can tolerate the stimulation.
